Kate Greenaway and Carnegie Medal Shortlists 2011

The shortlists for this years CILIP Kate Greenaway and Carnegie medals were announced last week too - with Oliver Jeffers making up the only Irish name on the list.

Up for the Kate Greenaway Medal are:

  • Grahame Baker-Smith for FArTHER
  • Anthony Browne for Me and You
  • Bob Graham for April Underhill, Tooth Fairy
  • Mimi Grey for Jim: a cautionary tale
  • Oliver Jeffers for The Heart and the Bottle
  • Kristin Oftedal for Big Bear, Little Brother
  • Catherine Rayner for Ernest
  • Juan Wijngaard for Cloud Tea Monkeys

and the Carnegie medal list looks like:

  • Patrick Ness for Monsters of Men
  • Marcus Sedgwick for White Crow
  • Meg Rosoff for The Bride’s Farewell
  • Jason Wallace for Out of Shadows
  • Theresa Breslin for Prisoner of the Inquisition
  • Geraldine McCaughrean for The Death Defying Pepper Roux

    Awesome list! I’ve already read The Heart and the Bottle several times. Loved Patrick Ness’s Chaos Walking series, (“Poo, Todd?”).
    Read Revolver by Marcus Sedgwick, which was stunning, so HAVE to get White Crow, and really found The Bride’s Farewell by Meg Rosoff a nice change of pace. It was not what I expected at all. Congrats to the nominees, I shall have to read every one!
