After years of questions - false hopes and rumours about what was happening - there is some real news about the Artemis Fowl film adaptation.
Producer Harvey Weinstein and Disney are coming together to work up a live-action film version of the bestselling series - using the story from the first two books in the series. And it gets better…
The script is being written by Michael Goldenberg, (of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix fame) and Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal are both named as executive producers.
I feel as though everything is coming full circle considering Bob De Niro and Jane Rosenthal brought me this book while I was still at Miramax and within hours I told them I wanted the rights to the film. This is a special project for me because my children absolutely love this book. This story is for everyone and there is no one better than Disney to make a film that will excite people young and old. (Harvey Weinstein, quoted in Disney PR)
It’s still early days… BUT Artemis hitting screens is looking better than ever!
Some great suggestions from twitter when it comes to casting… Jason Statham as Butler, Saoirse Ronan as Opal and maybe Jack Gleeson as Artemis Himself. Or Robert Sheehan?

All you have to is answer one EASY PEASY question: Who wrote the Percy Jackson series of books?
“It’s too homogenous. It’s way too much the same. The films aren’t really that different one from the other. Despicable Me could have been made Pixar, by DreamWorks. It’s not a great time for feature animation if you want to do something even moderately outside the formula.”
It’s interesting that Selick sees the digital broadcasting space as a potential home for new and creative content - he’s looking to Amazon and Netflix to be a home for new and experimental shows.
As the Disney machince builds up - and the Star Wars announcements begin to come together - here’s on endorsement that JJ Abrams can smile about. John Williams is on board for the next film - and talks about working with Kathleen Kennedy and JJ Abrams.
Be ready for some mega announcements in Anaheim next month
